The wind was expected to be around 40mph and the avalanche hazard was moderate. Once we marched the first 100 meters it was obvious we wouldn’t get far that day. The wind was blowing the snow so hard we couldn’t see shit. We were knee depth in the snow. In summer it’s easy to navigate. But when you wear ski googles, two gloves and you are trying to work out from a laminated map where you are going it’s a different story.
